Vernon A. Barnes, Ph.D. in physiology, assistant professor in
pediatrics is visiting from the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta
Georgia USA. He will present recent findings on the effectiveness of
school-based stress-reduction programs in treatment of elevated blood
pressure and associated pre-clinical markers of cardiovascular disease
in youth. His findings on the impact of Transcendental Meditation® on
blood pressure and school-related behavior with adolescents will be of
great interest to parents and educators and to all those concerned with the happiness and health of our children.

Dr. Barnes has been
involved in the evaluation of the effectiveness of school-based stress
reduction programs in treatment of elevated blood pressure and
associated pre-clinical markers of cardiovascular disease in youth in
Georgia for 10 years. He has conducted studies related to blood
pressure and the effects of Transcendental Meditation® with adolescents.
Dr. Barnes has 20 peer-reviewed publications (16 first-authored) as
well as 32 years of international experience in conducting a variety of
stress reduction techniques in youth and adults). His work has been
supported by an American Heart Association Scientist Development Grant
(9930073N) and the National Institutes of Health (HL072644).
